This would have been the words of some of the righteous Pharisees ( my Pastor call them far to see) and Sadducee ( sad to see) to Ruth when she chose to follow Naomi who had lost all ( her husband and children) and never even had a grandchild from both Oprah and Ruth.
1. Ha, Ruth you want to follow Naomi , ha, so that she can pass the anointing of loss into your life?
2. Ha, that woman called Naomi must really have sinned against God for her to be visited with such evil, is it only her?She will need serious deliverance.
3. Ha, a widow!! So Ruth, you want to continue to live with someone with that type of spirit.
4. What does she even have to offer you? Ruth, hey Ruth, we are warning you ooo.
5. Ruth, so you want to continue in this hopeless situation with Naomi. Ruth, huh!! How many ears do you have?
When we think that we are overly righteous and believe that we have a sense of entitlement more than others, it is very dangerous.
When we think that we are more deserving of grace and mercy more than another, we are walking in pride and arrogance.
When we think that because of other people’s experiences we can belittle them , we are not more than babblers who only hear the word and never do it.
When we think that a life has been devalued because of experiences, we have a distorted view of who God is.
This young woman by virtue of her commitment to her mother in law was noticeable and commended by God. Not only that , she was rewarded for her faithfulness and loyalty .
By virtue of her following Naomi, we all know she is one of the women mentioned in the linen age of Jesus Christ ( wow, a Moabite, an unbeliever who took on the religion of this so called empty widow).
Where many would have judged Naomi, she chose to believe in her.
While many would have abused Naomi, she chose to honor her.
While many would have neglected her, she chose to stick with her.
While many would have walked away, she chose to walk that journey with her.
While many wouldn’t serve her, she chose to provide for her.
While many would have run away, she chose to stay with her.
I am so glad she stayed, she looked beyond all that Naomi had gone through, she choose to look at her through the eyes of faith. She could have missed her visitation if she had misjudged this empty widow!!
She lived what I believe Naomi must have thought from the scriptures ( remember she was a Moabite).
Isn’t it amazing that the overly righteous ones are actually the ones who cannot see?
In the book of Mark 8 , Jesus had to perform a two stage healing for the blind man because at the first touch, he saw men as trees. Jesus knew the man needed a second touch to see clearly. To see people as Jesus would see them. To give grace to others. To extend our hearts and hands of kindness to others.
It was no wonder the disciples too needed a second touch to know who Jesus was. They had no idea who Jesus was, having walked with Him for some years and they still couldn’t recognize Him as the Messiah.
I strongly believe that some of us need Jesus’ second touch in other to see clearly.
May the Lord open our eyes to see the way we ought to see in Jesus name.
